Abilympics Coach / Mentor Expression of Interest
Skills Canada – Nova Scotia is seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified individuals interested in coaching competitors preparing for the August 2026 Skills Test competition and Abilympics International competition in May of 2027.
Coaches will play a key role in supporting competitors through technical training, mentorship, and overall competition readiness. In addition to providing ongoing coaching support, selected individuals will assist in the development and delivery of the Skills Test taking place in August, which will help determine which Abilympics gold medalists will advance to participate on Team Canada.
There is also potential for coaches to travel with their designated competitor to Helsinki in May 2027 as part of the support team. This role may include providing emotional and mental health support, assisting competitors in navigating the competition environment, and supporting them throughout the event experience.
Please note that Abilympics Team Canada’s participation in the 2027 Abilympics International Competition is currently dependent on confirmation of funding.
Coach Expectations
- Coaches will help facilitate an Abilympics Skills Test in August to determine the competitor who will be on team Canada
- Coaches/Mentors will be assigned a designated competitor and will commit to providing 2–3 training sessions per month, either virtually and/or in person. Responsibilities include supporting the development and implementation of individualized training plans, strengthening technical skills, building confidence, and helping competitors prepare for the international stage.
- Coaches will maintain regular communication with Skills NS staff regarding competitor progress, challenges, and support needs, and will participate in occasional check-ins or team meetings as required. Successful candidates will foster an inclusive, respectful, supportive, and competitor-centered training environment throughout the coaching process
